Simple and effective. This is how all VPNs should be in terms of architecture. Speed and latency are very good, you don't notice the two hops. And works with Wireguard which has broad support for Linux and Android without needing a custom app.

I would say the order of trust of vpn entities goes mullvad>ivpn>obscura for most people. The reason people use obscura is to absorb the trust of mullvad via a hop and add another third part for even more privacy. This should increase them to obscura>mullvad>ivpn but it doesnt:

They manage the second hop transparently. This means you are relying on them to connect you to mullvad, which weakens the security to slightly better than using a vpn made by exclusively them with only one hop.

To setup a VPN chain and maintain security you must always be connected to the first vpn while purchasing, using, and interacting with the second vpn provider. For them to provide the same security they must update their client to do this on your own device instead of blindly trusting their servers.

I recommend mullvad + ivpn despite the slightly higher price and technical competence required if you need multiple hops. Otherwise I recommend purely mullvad as it will provide higher security due to these flaws.

Further note: I have used them and they do provide what they say they do, they just do it in a way that undermines the principal of what they are offering to a point of being useless in my opinion.

Fails when attempting geo blocked services even with added hop on top of Mullvad

It’s works very fast, but I think it needs some improvements.

It lacks some features and doesn't support Windows, but it's fast and reliable. I'm looking forward to what the future holds.

Used it for a month, it's just very solid. I don't see myself using it further when Mullvad exists.

A bit pricier, but it’s worth it.

Nice on top for Mullvad. But a bit pricy.

Pricier than going straight to Mullvad, but it's a privacy upgrade. The trust gets split so itt kind of breaks the trust chain required in conventional VPNs.

I've used Obscura on and off for months. It's much faster than I thought it was going to be considering it has an extra hop - almost unnoticeable from a normal VPN.

The main benefit for Obscura is that Mullvad won't have both your IP address AND internet traffic. Mullvad will only know your web traffic and Obscura will only know your IP address, but neither hop has both. A strict improvement in privacy for a couple more bucks a month.
